Chartridge
Longwick’s weekend form continued with a very good win over Chartridge. Having lost the toss the Longwick batsmen made a steady start but lost John F (6) early to ball that jagged back to take his off stump. The young Ben T (35) was then run out by Kev F (49) having been hot on the toe and overcome with surprise as the older man made a mad dash single. Kev D arrived at the crease not sure which end to hold the bat as he’d missed all the practise seasons and departed a little frustrated having scored 8. Matt E and Josh C stepped up the pace and moved the to 188 before the Yeti (45) holed out. Keith S joined Josh (37 no) and watched as the score moved to 198 of 40 overs.
Chartridge made a similar stead start but regularly lost wickets while attempting to keep the run rate in sight. Will P again bowled accurately and aggressively with 2 for 28 off eight overs despite a massive hangover! Josh, Cliff and Jim L all kept the pressure up by bowling tight supported by some good fielding. H Rauf was the pick of the Chartridge batsmen scoring 62 but fell to the catch of the season by Jim Locke. With the ever increasing run rate wickets fell regularly and they reached 149 for 9.
Whitchurch
The first game of the season was played on a damp pitch at Whitchurch on a day that could have been warmer. Longwick bat first and posted a very good score of 213. John F hit an impressive 42, Jim L 19 and Matt once again topped 50. Both Kevin F and Jason M failed to reach double figures but Sam Morton showed his Dad how to bat with an excellent 27. Will P joined Sam with some hard hitting at the end and clocked up 21 not out.
In reply Whitchurch managed to make 3 figures, T Griffin hitting 37 and J Marchant 33. Cliff C and Jim L were the pick of Longwick’s bowler with 3 & 2 wicket respectively. Will P bowled an accurate and aggressive opening spell taking 1 for 21 of 5. Sam Morton was equally as accurate taking 1 for 13 of 8 overs, 3 of which were maidens.
Practice match
9 enthusiastic players enjoyed the first outing of the year of Sunday 18 April when they arrived for the practice session. The weather was remarkably warm and sunny resulting in a scramble for the sun tan lotion and some unusually unfashionable shorts being sports by Sick Note.
After drawing a numbered ticket we took turns at batting and faced 24 legal balls. The aim was to score as many runs as possible each dismissal costing 6 runs. Sick Note started the proceeding with a very respectable 45 demonstrating his power timing and ability to hit the rusty bowling to all parts of the ground. Yeti also made it past 40 but fell short of Sick note total. The Juggler hit two excellent 6’s and like most of the players made 30 plus. However no one was able to overhaul Sick Note score which was celebrate with a beer or two at the Three Horse shoes in Towersey.
